Minibus crash: 10 hurt; all had no belts.
A group of 20 chinese nationals were travelling in a minibus after which, it slammed into the back of a truck. The impact threw them forward and resulted in one worker suffering from a broken nose, another was knocked unconscious and 10 others were injured. They were taken to the Singapore General Hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries. These incident resulted in a tremendous uproar about the safety of travelling in minibuses without seatbelts.


Once again, it takes another accident to prove the importance of travelling in a vehicle with a seatbelt. Apparently, the government only started stressing the importance of travelling with a seatbelt only after an accident in April that caused the death of eight-year-old Russel Koh. He was travelling in a minibus, not fitted with seatbelts, and was killed after being flung out of the bus when it collided with 2 cars. His death reminded everyone of the consequences of not travelling with seatbelts.
As quoted by MP of Aljunied GRC: "Accidents can happen anytime.". The reality of such a statement is horrifyingly real. It is important to install seatbelts in the vehicles so as to prevent the repetition of such an incident again.
